Leve de Koning - Long live the King!

It was an exciting day for "King's Day 2013" in Amsterdam.
As many may be aware, the annual kings day event was bigger than usual with the abdication of Queen Beatrix and the "Swearing in" of Willem Alexander.
After an evening of celebration, where street were full and music played to large crowds all night long, we made it to Dam square to watch the signing of abdication documents on large monitor and then witnessed the new King and his family waving from the balcony.

The day was filled with exploring the street vendors and continuing music celebration.  There were a few creative games of chance and various children beginning their entrepreneurial careers.

In the evening, some of us made it to Java Island to watch the Koningsvaart (boat parade).  The new king and family left their embarkation point at the EYE film centre in a canal boat while entertainers artistically danced for the royal family and a televised audience. While cruising the canal, they stopped along the way for further scheduled televised performances of arts and sport.
